Wrights Beach

Just spent a lovely weekend with my family on the coast. Here are some of my favorite photos from our many walks on the beach.

Weekend on the coast

iphone_081511-190

We spent the weekend up in Mendocino County with some good friends.

iphone_081511-255

It was a perfect weekend away.

iphone_081511-237

Six of us rented a house right on an ocean bluff overlooking the Pacific ocean.

Main living area

The rental had a modern look and was probably built in the 70′s (we found a fondue pot in one of the cabinets).

Kitchen counter

I enjoyed it’s spaceship kitchen counter top.

I also liked the high drop cross beam ceiling.

But most of all, I liked the spa on the balcony.

It was a beautiful.

We spent time at the beach…

playing in the waves.

Irish Beach

But most of our weekend was spent on the balcony.

Enjoying the incredible view…

Happy Monday all! Hope you also had a great weekend relaxing.

More Inspiration

Random Andrea Fact – I love Shepard Fairey’s work. I am lucky enough to have a limited edition print of the second Obama “Change” poster Fairey released. I purchased it before the 2008 election and it will soon be framed and hanging in my office at work.

So you can imagine my happiness to see a whole collection of Fairey’s prints featured at Star Noodle, a local noodle spot we had New Year’s Eve dinner at in Maui.

Here’s a really bad picture of the interior decor. To my defense, it was NYE so please understand I was not paying attention to detail.

In the far back right corner you can see the “Make Art, Not War” Fairey print. It is one of my favorites and would probably be my next choice to purchase.

Star Noodle has fabulous food. If you are ever visiting the island I highly recommend it.

Besides my uber-excitement of seeing the Fairey prints, I also thought they worked seamlessly with Star Noodle’s utilitarian decor.

But then I saw the bathroom with its awesome barn door and a momentarily forgot about anything else. I normally don’t take my phone with me to the restroom, but I made a special trip just to take a few photos.

Here’s the sink and vanity. Love the use of pebbles on the vanity wall and the extra large mirrors.

Star Noodle Barn Door

But here’s the best part! The barn door.

and…the barn door opened. Look at the great hardware! I thought it was a unexpected detail in the very modern, urban space.

Recently, I seem to see barn doors popping up all over the internet, but I am giving props to Star Noodle for this awesome and unexpected element.

Now, one more thing about Shepard Fairey.

Since I got back from Maui, Nate and I watched the Academy Award nominated Exit through the Gift Shop which highlights Fairey’s work along with other street artists.

It’s a rather amusing look at street art. You should check it out. It’s currently available on Netflix Instant Watch if you are a subscriber. Here’s the trailer.

Inspiration from Maui

While visiting Maui over New Years, I saw the best example of modern tropical landscaping. The Mauian, a boutique hotel on Napili Bay was originally built in the 1950s. It was recently renovated and I think they did a great job marrying the retro vibe with modern aesthetics.

This is exactly the look I want for the back porch. I love the look of the deep greens and purples. I think they would look fabulous against our celery green house and grey concrete.

VIP, Baby!

I am still catching up on posts during election season so bare with me.

110810 014

The Treasure Island Festival this year was a lot of fun although the SF weather turned on us midday. Nate and I almost froze off our bums watching into the late night from the VIP area.

Yes, you read right, we broke down and bought VIP tickets this year. We decided to only go to Saturday’s lineup, so we decided to be as comfortable as possible. We had a great time watching Die Antwoord, LCD Soundsystem, Deadmau5, Miike Snow and many others. It makes me happy that this has become our little tradition. Even in the midst of crazy campaign season we made it out.

Great room and ideas…

Nate and I stayed at a great hotel called Wine and Roses over the weekend. We were in Lodi, CA for the wedding of our good friends Scott and Summer. We had a fabulous time. It was a beautiful weekend surrounded by grapevines and good friends.

I had to share photos of our room because it was so kick ass and modern.

The bathroom was my favorite. Hands down, it had my favorite bathroom of all time. I would kill for a bathtub like that! Look at that floor and color combo. I love, love, love it!
