Fiesta

While not technically about my house, I wanted write about my dad’s retirement party over the weekend. The theme was Mexican and the party was a fiesta!

Borrowing an idea from Sunset magazine, my mom purchased these amazing hand pressed banners from mexevents.com. The guys helped out by stringing them up in a star formation on the TV room ceiling the morning of the party.

To keep with the bright fiesta colors, we also had cozies made out of felt for the soup cups. Very inexpensive to make and functional.  Just cut the felt to size, fit on a cup and then sew a thick seam.

My mom came up with a great menu. We had two types of soup (in crock pots to keep them warm) – a Caribbean Black Bean soup and a Shrimp Pozole. We also made two types of tamales – carnitas and black bean & cheese.

Overall the party was a great success.  The soup was great hit on an winter day.  I wish I took more photos once the guest began to arrive, but let’s just say people arrived early and stayed late.
